frequently asked questions

Should my car seat be replaced after a vehicle crash?
Chicco recommends replacing a car seat after any crash. The base is included in this recommendation (if the base was in the vehicle when the crash occurred).

There is no way of knowing what, if any, damage has occurred that would affect the car seat’s performance in a crash. The only way to determine this would be to test the car seat. Therefore, Chicco cannot guarantee a car seat involved in a crash will perform the way it was designed in any subsequent crash. Chicco recommends contacting your insurance company about replacement of your car seat.

Can I use any additional coverings/products in my Chicco car seat?
Chicco does not allow use of any accessories, pads, or products not included with the car seat, unless specifically approved by Chicco. Doing so will void the warranty of the Child Restraint.

Add-on products can interfere with the proper performance of the car seat. It is critical for your child’s safety that add-on products manufactured by other companies not be used without approval from Chicco. The only accessories approved at this time are the Bokoo covers: http://www.bokoocovers.com/Chicco-KeyFit-and-KeyFit-30-Cover.html

To keep your baby warm and safe when in an infant car seat, Chicco, and child passenger safety experts, recommend putting your child in lightweight, yet warm, clothing with legs (fleece products are great for this). Once the baby is properly buckled in the harness, blankets may be placed over the baby for additional warmth.

Can I take my car seat on an airplane?
The Chicco KeyFit and KeyFit 30 car seats are certified for use in commercial aircraft. Please consult your User Guide for proper installation. Our product manuals are also available on our website.

What is the difference between the KeyFit and KeyFit 30 car seat?
The KeyFit car seat is rated for an infant from 4 to 22 lbs. The KeyFit 30 is rated for an infant from 4 to 30 lbs. The maximum height of the child for both car seats is 30 inches, or if there is less than inch between the top of your child’s head and the top of the car seat. You should move your child to a larger car seat once either the maximum weight or height limit is met. We suggest keeping your child rear facing as long as possible. Rear facing is the safest position for crash protection. There are many convertible car seats available that face the rear until 30-40 lbs and then face forward.
